Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 October 2026

Rooto is a navigation app. It needs to know where you are in order to tell you where to turn. It does not need to know who you are, and it does not ask.

The short version

No account

No email address, no password, no name, no phone number. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to close.

Location, to navigate you

Your position is sent to our servers only to do something you asked for — a route, traffic ahead, hazards nearby. We keep no history of where you have been.

No ads, no tracking SDKs

No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no analytics or attribution SDKs. Nothing in the app tracks you across other apps or websites.

Nothing sold, ever

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. There is no profile of you, because there is nothing to attach one to.

Your trips stay on the phone

Trip history, saved places, downloaded roads and your settings are written to your device and never reach us. Deleting the app deletes them.

What Rooto collects

Your location. While you navigate, the app uses your device's location, including in the background so guidance keeps working with the screen off. It is sent to our servers only to do something you asked for, such as calculating a route or checking traffic and hazards ahead. We do not keep a history of where you have been. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings; Rooto cannot navigate without it.

A random install identifier. Created on your device the first time you open Rooto. It is not linked to you, your device or any account. It lets us avoid counting a hazard report twice, keep a trip you share under your control, and match a purchase to your installation.

What you search for. A destination you type is used to find that place. We do not record it in our server logs.

Diagnostics. If the app crashes or hits an error, a technical report (the error, device model, system and app version) is sent so we can fix it. It never includes screenshots of the app.

Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details; we only learn whether your installation has an active subscription.

Who else sees data

To route you, Rooto relies on a small number of service providers that handle map search, live traffic, address lookups, crash reports and subscriptions on our behalf. Each receives only what a request needs, never your name or an account. We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising.

What stays on your phone

Your trip history, saved places, downloaded map data and settings are stored on your device and never reach us. Deleting the app deletes them.

Optional features

Trip sharing is off unless you start it. Anyone with the link you send can see your position, arrival time and destination until the share ends. Hazard reports you submit are stored with their location so other drivers can be warned, and expire automatically. We also keep brief records of possible wrong-way travel on one-way roads, tied only to the install identifier, to prove a safety feature works before it warns anyone.

How long we keep things

Children

Rooto is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

You can turn off location access in your device settings, or delete the app to remove everything stored on your device. Because there is no account, we cannot look up data by name or email; to have records tied to your install identifier deleted, write to us and we will explain how.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
